Long Island Fencers Club, Food Drive, Long Island Cares, Harborfields Alliance Community Outreach

In August 2024, the Long Island Fencers’ Club launched the Food/Hunger Ambassador initiative as part of a broader effort to Save Our Senior Citizens. This program was created to address food insecurity and provide much-needed assistance to vulnerable community members. Since the initiative's inception, ambassadors have shown unwavering dedication to the cause. By December 2025, they successfully collected a total of five thousand five hundred and eighty-five (5,585) non-perishable food items. These contributions have made a significant impact on the lives of those in need.

The donations from this program have provided vital relief to several groups and individuals, including Senior citizens facing food insecurity, a young man and his family affected by a devastating motor vehicle accident, Harborfields Alliance for Community Outreach (HACO), Old First Presbyterian Church, Huntington, NY, and Saint Gerard Majella Roman Catholic Church, Port Jefferson, NY.

The Long Island Fencers’ Club currently collaborates with Long Island Cares, which serves as the primary location for receiving and distributing donations. This partnership ensures that contributions reach those who need them most within the local community.

At the Long Island Fencers’ Club, we believe in the power of community and the importance of lending a helping hand. Our “Let the Sunshine” volunteer initiative, including our ongoing Food Drives and local cleanup efforts, thrives because of the compassion and generosity of people like you.

To everyone who has freely given, whether it’s a can of food, nonperishable groceries, toiletries, or your time, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude. Your willingness to support those in need, especially our senior citizens, truly makes a difference. Each donation is more than just an item; it is a ray of hope and a reminder that kindness still shines brightly in our world.

We are genuinely impressed with our students, families, and supporters for the donations and the spirit of giving you have shown. Thank you for stepping forward, for caring, and for inspiring others to join in making our community a better place. Your actions embody what it means to be a “Beacon of Light,” and we are proud to stand with you as we continue to “Let the Sunshine.”

Together, with each thoughtful contribution and act of service, we illuminate the path to a brighter future for everyone. Thank you for your generosity, your heart, and your commitment to helping those who need it most.

The Long Island Fencers' Club has selected Long Island Cares Inc., Supporting Our Seniors, as the primary recipient of our Senior Citizens Food Drive.

Long Island Cares Mission: To bring together all available resources for the benefit of the hungry and food insecure on Long Island and, to the best of our ability, provide for the humanitarian needs of our community. Our goals are to improve food security for families, sponsor programs that help families achieve self-sufficiency, and educate the public about the root causes and consequences of hunger on Long Island.

Long Island Cares Supporting Our Seniors S.O.S. operates a Mobile Pantry.  A cornerstone of our efforts is our Supporting Our Seniors S.O.S. Mobile Pantry. We provide monthly distribution of emergency food to senior community centers across Long Island. These packages are designed to supplement their home pantries and monthly shopping lists, offering essential sustenance when they need it the most.

With gratitude,

The Long Island Fencers’ Club
